How Do I Import Historic Coaching Data into Ambition?
Last updated: November 5, 2026
You can import coaching Sessions from other platforms into Ambition so managers have a fuller history of their reports' coaching. The import uses a CSV file that you map to Ambition's coaching fields before anything is added.
This article explains how to upload, map, and import historic coaching Sessions from a CSV file.
Required permissions:
The Coaching: Import Coaching Sessions or Coaching: All Access permission is required to import historic coaching data.
Required features:
The Import Previous Sessions feature is required to add historic coaching data to Ambition.
Upload the Historic Session Data
Go to Coach --> Sessions --> Import --> Import Sessions. The Import Coaching Sessions page will appear.
Optional: Click on Download Template for an example of how to format your CSV.
Click on Choose CSV File to upload your historic coaching Sessions. The file can have up to 50,000 rows and be up to 10 MB.
The Preview section will show the first few rows of the CSV. Click on Mapping to continue.
Map the CSV Fields to Ambition Fields
The Session Fields section will automatically match your CSV's column headers to Ambition coaching fields. Use the column drop-down menus to change any match.
Under Agenda Items, choose how each Agenda Item is titled: Column as title, Separate title column, or Custom title.
Under Default Values, set the Timezone, Session Name, Description, and Objective to use when the CSV doesn't provide them.
Optional: Click on Save Configuration to reuse this mapping for future imports.
Click on Review & Validate.
Review and Import the Historic Sessions
Review the Validation Summary. Ready to Import shows how many Sessions will be added, Will Be Skipped shows how many rows will be left out because of errors, and Total Rows shows the number of rows in the CSV.
Click on Import [number] Sessions. If some rows will be skipped, a Confirm Import pop-up will appear; click on Import [number] Sessions again to continue.
When the import finishes, the Import Results will appear. Click on View Sessions to see the newly added Sessions.
