Update Single User
Set or update the manager of a single user:
On the user's settings page:
1. Access the respective user's dashboard and click Edit Profile.
2. Locate the manager field.
3. Search for and select the user's manager from the Manager dropdown.
4. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the user settings page.
On user management pages:
1. Open the left navigation and click Administration > People > Users.
Assigning a manager is supported on both the Directory and Hierarchy pages.
2. Search for the respective user who needs their manager updated.
3. Click the ellipses icon, , beside the user's name and select Assign Manager.
4. Search for and select the user's manager from the Select Manager dropdown.
5. Click Assign.
Update Multiple Users
Assign the same manager to multiple users:
On the user management page:
1. Open the left navigation and click Administration > People > Users.
2. Search or filter for the respective users who needs their manager updated.
3. Select the checkboxes beside the user's name who need to have a manager assigned. If all the users on the page need to be update, click the checkbox in the top row.
4. Click Actions and Assign Manager.
5. Search for and select the appropriate manager from the Select Manager dropdown.
6. Click Assign.
Assign multiple users to the same manager:
On the user management page:
1. Open the left navigation and click Administration > People > Users.
Assigning direct reports is supported on both the Directory and Hierarchy pages.
2. Search or filter for the respective manager who needs their direct reports updated.
3. Click the ellipses icon, , beside their name and Assign Direct Reports.
Alternatively on the Directory page, locate the "Direct Reports" column and click on the number of direct reports in line with the appropriate manager.
4. Search for and select the appropriate direct reports from the available list. If existing direct reports need to be removed, click the Selected tab and uncheck the box beside the name of direct reports who should no longer be managed by this manager.
5. Click Assign.
Assign different managers to multiple users:
The quickest way to update the manager for multiple users at once is to upload a user CSV. Learn more about preparing a user CSV here.
Alternatively, you can follow the steps above for assigning a manager to a single user at a time.
Automate Assigning Managers
Setting and updating the manager field in Ambition can be automated through:
- the User API by mapping a field to the "User - Manager Email" Ambition field. Learn more here.
- the Salesforce attribute sync by mapping the Salesforce "ManagerID" field (corresponds to the user lookup field of Manager on a user's profile) to the Ambition "User - Manager" field. Learn more here.
If the manager field is automated through the User API or Salesforce Attribute Sync, the "manager" field will not be editable in Ambition.
