Create an Ambition Fantasy Competition
Things to know before you start
Ambition Fantasy Competitions are highly structured competitions.
There's only a little bit of setup, but a lot to understand. If you haven't already, read up on What is an Ambition Fantasy Competition?
Create a Fantasy Competition
Users with the "Competitions: All Access" permission will be able to create, edit, and delete all Competitions.
Have questions about updating Permissions? Learn more here.
1. Create a Fantasy Competition through the quick actions button, Motivate and Recognize > Competition, or through the left-hand navigation, Competitions > Create.
2. Click the Create button on the Fantasy tile.
3. Complete the Create New Competition Form. Fill out the following fields:
1. Name and Time Frame
Field Name |
Field Description |
Fantasy Competition Name |
Name of your fantasy competition We recommend season-based titles such as Sales Season 1 Fantasy League |
Live <> Hidden Mode |
"Hidden Mode" allows you to test drive a competition's setup and scoring configurations without notifying users that a competition has been created. Learn more about "hidden mode" here. |
Start Date |
Select the Monday you want your competition to start. Since weekly matchups always start on Monday, your season must as well.
Note: The Start Date cannot be a Monday of a previous week. You can select the Monday of the current week and any future Monday dates, but not historical. |
# Season Weeks |
How many weeks of regular season play? At least 1 week of regular season play has to occur. Max # of weeks is 40.
Note: Remember that 2 weeks are always reserved for playoffs. Selecting a negative # of weeks will not create a fantasy competition that begins in the past. |
Weekly Game End Day |
How long does each weekly matchup run? It can be as short a 1 (Monday's only), up to 7 (All week long, great teams with contribution over the weekend). |
End Hour |
Does your team focus in the morning and save meetings for afternoons? Maybe consider half-day games? Do your teams work multiple shifts? Maybe a 24 hour window is better to cover all competitor's schedule? While one-off challenges support 30 minute intervals, fantasy competitions must end at the top of the hour. |
End Time Zone |
Which time zone are your competitors in? If your competitors span multiple time zones, we recommend selecting the timezone of the most western players (ex. 5 pm PST). |
2. Choose Competitors
Hierarchy Level
What level of competition will you create?
- User vs User?
- Team vs Team?
- Division vs Division?
Special Note about the "Manager" Hierarchy Level In Cases where a Manager Manages other Managers.
If Manager A is listed as a Manager B's manager within their User Settings, any employees that roll up to Manager B will also be considered as users Manager A manages.
Read more about Ambition's Hierarchy Levels here
Competitor Selection
Select whether all of the chosen hierarchy or just specific members of user / groups will compete in the Challenge.
If a Custom or Within grouping is selected, pick specific users / groups to compete in the challenge.
3. Scoring
Scoring Best Practice: It's important to choose metrics that are updated frequently enough to drive team behavior. We recommend metrics which are updated at least hourly for real-time results.
We recommend our multi-metric, normalized aggregate Activity Score. Using the Activity Score allows you to compete across cross functional roles (e.g. AEs & BDRs) or unbalanced teams.
If you wish to compete on Objective Score you can only do so if your organization's Objective Score time frame is set to Weekly.
If you choose to use another metric, we strongly encourage you to use real-time metrics. Lagging metrics undermine the spirit of competition and make it hard for contributors to stay engaged.
Note:
Multi-Metric Competitions cannot exceed combining 5 metrics.
The same metric cannot be used more than once in a single Fantasy Competition. ie. Cannot use both points and value scoring for the same metric.
As stated above, if you wish to compete on Objective Score you can only do so if your prganization's Objective Score time frame is set to Weekly.
Click the Add Score Parameter button to begin compiling your competition metrics.
Select a Metric.
Select the Scoring Type.
If Points is selected as the Scoring Type, complete adjust the Points Per Value selections to fit your needs.
At this time, points are required to be whole numbers.
Example above showcases where 5 points will be given per 1 Appointment Set
Determine and set options for the Scoring Parameter.
Option |
Recommended Use |
Behavior |
Use Per-User Average (Value Method) |
Recommended for when competing groups are not the same size.
Since Activity and Objective Scores are inherently averaged, they will already use a Per-User Average. This toggle will have no additional impact towards either Activity or Objective Score. |
If toggled off, the metric Value will be used: This setting will use the value of the metric associated with an entity to generate the score. Example: If a user/team creates 10 new leads every day for 1 work week, their value is 50.
If toggled on, the Average value will be used: If the entity being scored is a super entity (or team) use the average metric value of each sub entity (users) to generate the score. Example: Team A has two team members. Respectively, they each have activity scores of 80 and 100 for the week, so their average score is 90 [(80+100)/2]. |
Sum Daily Averages | Recommended for long durations where affecting the average becomes increasingly difficult. |
For competitions that last longer than a day and contain more than one metric value (Monday's value, Tuesday's values, etc) we must determine how to aggregate these values together, for example, summing or averaging:
If toggled off, Default scoring applies = This will depend on the metric being scored. If the metric is an average metric, the value will be averaged across the time span of the competition. If the value is summed, the value will be summed. Note: Activity Score and Objective Score are Average metrics
If toggled on, Sum scoring applies = Ignore the metric type and always sum the daily values together |
Exclude Weekends |
Do not include weekends in the scoring calculation. Only applicable for competitions spanning over the weekend days, Saturday or Sunday |
If toggled on = all weekend values will be ignored. If the user generates metrics over the weekend, they will not be counted towards the competition’s score. |
Bench Out-of-Office Players |
Do not include users who are out for sick days, PTO, etc from bringing down a team's score. |
If toggled on = metric values generated on days where the user is marked "out of office" will be ignored. Learn more about out of office here. |
Min Value* |
A "pay to play" setup. One must cross a threshold before generating a score. |
The floor that must be reached before score contribution is made.
Note: After the threshold is crossed, a user's score will be representative of the threshold's value and not starting from 0. Ex. A user crosses a min value of $10,000 Revenue, and their score will reflect their $10,500 metric value. NOT from starting $0 once the threshold is crossed. |
Max Value* |
A "cap" on the amount of contribution a user can receive from a single metric. Prevent inflation of score from a single metric. |
The ceiling at which no additional score contribution is made. |
*Note about thresholds and multi-day competitions
Since each weekly match up is treated as a separate competition, a minimum or maximum threshold will be applicable to each week of the fantasy competition.
Repeat the above steps for each desired Score Parameter.
Multi-Metric competitions can combine up to 5 different metrics.
4. Set Prizes (optional)
Prizes are not required, but if appropriate 1st, 2nd, 3rd place prizes can be listed here.
Depending on the type of competitors in your competition, Best of the Rest and Season MVP prizes can be awarded as well.
A "Best of the Rest" title will be awarded to the winner of the consolation bracket if more than four competitors are involved.
A "Season MVP" title will be awarded if the fantasy is a group based competition, ex. Team vs Team. User vs User competitions will not award a Season MVP as the winner of the entire competition will equate to the MVP.
To include a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Place based Prize:
1. Click "Add Prize" or "Add Another Prize" if a prize type has already been added.
2. Select Playoff from the Type dropdown.
3. Select which Place (options for 1st-3rd) you'd like to input a prize for in the Place dropdown.
4. Fill in the Prize that will be awarded in the Prize field.
To include a Best of the Rest or Season MVP based Prize:
1. Click "Add Prize" or "Add Another Prize" if a prize type has already been added.
2. Select Best of the Rest and/or Season MVP from the Type dropdown.
As noted above:
A "Best of the Rest" title will be awarded to the winner of the consolation bracket if more than four competitors are involved.
A "Season MVP" title will be awarded if the Fantasy is a Group Based competition, ex. Team vs Team. User vs User competitions will not award a Season MVP as the winner of the entire competition will equate to the MVP.
3. Fill in the Prize that will be awarded in the Prize field.
5. Save Competition
Once you've completed the fantasy Form, click the Create Competition button.
