Group Scorecard Calculations
Group Dashboards are perfect for seeing how specific Teams, Locations, and other Groups in Ambition are performing.
Instead of having to view each individual User’s Dashboard, a look at a Group’s Dashboard can show collective progress.
Ambition compiles data from each contributing User using weighted averages that take into account the varying Scorecards, Metrics, and Targets to generate a collective group score.
Can I see an example group scorecard?
Where do the targets on group scorecards come from?
I see a different value on the "Metrics" tab than on the scorecard.
Can I see how a group scorecard is calculated?
What if group members aren't contributing?
How are points and percentages calculated if members aren't contributing?
What is the impact of user activation history on scorecards?
Group Scorecard Example
Here is an example of a Competition Team, Quota Crushers, with a daily Activity Score of 76.7.
The Quota Crushers Team has 3 members. The view below can be found by clicking the Contributors and Managers button.
Each member of the team belongs to a separate Role (job function), and as a result has a different Scorecard.
On the Team's Scorecard, the Metric "Email" is listed with a Target value of 100.
The current progress is 88 out of 100, but where does the values 88 and 100 come from?
Where do Group Scorecard Targets come from?
Group Scorecards are not customizable themselves, but will be a direct reflection of the Metrics, Targets, and Weights that each respective User of the Group has been assigned.
For example:
The Scorecard above has 88/100 Emails. Two members of the Quota Crushers Team, Troy and Mia, have Emails as an activity Metric on their Role's Scorecard.
Troy and Mia will be the only Users who contribute to the Emails Scorecard value on the team.
Troy is in the Sales Development Representatives Roles, whose Activity Score includes Emails. The Sales Development Representatives daily Target for Emails is 50.
Mia is in the Sr. Sales Development Representatives Role, whose Activity Score includes Emails. The Sr. Sales Development Representatives daily target for Emails is also 50.
Since both Troy and Mia are on the Quota Crushers Team, their daily Target for Emails will be added together.
(50 Emails/Sales Development Representative)*(1 Sales Development Representative)
+
(50 Emails/Sr Sales Development Representative)*(1 Sr Sales Development Representative)
= 100 Emails for Quota Crushers
This is where the denominator value of 100 comes from for the Emails activity metric section of the Scorecard.
Troy has contributed 41 Emails and Mia has contributed 47;(41+47=88) therefore, the Metric attainment for Dreamforce Appointments is 88/100.
If there were more than two Users in the Quota Crushers Group with the Emails metric on their Scorecard, the target(the denominator, in this example is 100) would increase.
The number for the Emails metric on the Activity Score will more than likely be different than the Metrics tab (explained below)
Why do the Scorecard values differ from the Metrics Tab and Analytics?
Group Dashboards also have a Metrics Tab that will showcase values for all of your organization's Metrics. The Metrics Tab viewed under a Group Dashboard, such as the Quota Crushers, will show the total value for each User within the Group, regardless of their Scorecard setup.
For Example:
The other member of the Quota Crushers team is Jenna who is in a role where the Activity Score does not include the Emails metric.
Since the Emails metric is not included on Jenna's Activity Score, their contributions to Emails will not roll-up to the Quota Crushers' Team Activity Score.
However, if you look at the total Emails for the Quota Crushers, Jenna's Email metric value will be counted.
How are the Points Calculated?
Now that we understand the Scorecard value ratio, we need to understand where the points come into play.
The point values for Group Scorecards are calculated by multiplying Units Reached by Unit Worth; where, Units Reached are the total Metrics contributed and Unit Worth is calculated based on how many Users have the Metric on their Scorecard, the weights associated with that particular metric, and who has contributed to the metric for the day.
To view the exact points per unit, per Scorecard Role, consult a Role's Scorecard or view an individual's dashboard in the case of custom targets.
Sales Development Representative Scorecard =
0.2 points per Email
Troy's Scorecard, a member of the Sales Development Representative Role =
0.2 points * 41 Emails = 8.20 Points from Emails
What if Group Members aren't contributing Activity?
Overall Activity or Objective Score Calculation
At the current time if Ambition does not receive any data associated to a User, their score of 0 will not be averaged into the group score.
Similar to the Benching/Out of Office system used in our Competition feature, if a user does not contribute activity, they will not negatively impact the team's score.
The image below shows a 7 person team where only 4 members have contributed activity.
51.5 + 52.5 + 35.8 + 60.2 = 200. 153/4 contributing team members = 50
Specific Metric Calculation on a Group Scorecard
Group Percentages and Points When Group Members Aren't Contributing
Group Percentage
The percentage is calculated by taking the metric's Current Value / Current Possible Target.
For a Group Scorecard, the Current Possible Target will reflect the number of contributors.
Users who have not yet contributed any values will not be factored into the Group's Current Possible Target.
The Current Possible Target will change as additional Contributors are added to the calculation.
Percentages for a Group Scorecard where multiple Scorecards are being combined (Organization, Managerial, etc) will be calculated by taking the points achieved per person and dividing them by the sum of the collective weights, how much the metric is worth for each individual scorecard.
Group Points
Similar to how Percentages are calculate on a Group Scorecard, Points for a Group Scorecard will be calculated by taking the points achieved per person and dividing them by the number of Contributors.
The points per person at a Group level are determined by the points the individual has attained based on their personal scorecard shown on their User Dashboard.
Score Scenario 1 - Not All Members Are Contributing Activity
The Group has 4 members. However, Elizabeth has yet to contribute, so the number of group contributors will be 3.
Role 1 has a Scorecard where Activity is worth 25% of the total score and .25 points is gained for every 1 Activity.
Betty has achieved 80 / 100 Activities.
80 Activities x .25 points for each Activity = 20 personal points.
20 personal points / 3 group contributors = 6.66 points for Betty on the group level.
Role 2 has a Scorecard where Activity is worth 50% of the total score and .25 points is gained for every 1 Activity.
Blake has achieved 100 / 200 Activities.
100 Activities x .25 points for each Activity = 25 personal points.
25 personal points / 3 group contributors = 8.33 points for Blake on the group level.
Role 3 has a Scorecard where Activity is worth 100% of the total score and .25 points is gained for every 1 Activity.
Diego has a target override which makes his personal target higher than other fellow role members, so Diego will achieve 0.0333 points for every 1 Activity.
Diego has achieved 250 / 3000 Activities.
250 Activities x 0.0333 points for each Activity = 8.3 personal points.
8.3 personal points / 3 group contributors = 2.77 points for Diego on the group level.
Elizabeth has achieved 0 / 400 Activities.
Since Elizabeth hasn't contributed, she has gained no personal points and is not factored in as a group contributor.
Group Percentage
Sum of personal points: 20 + 25 + 8.3 = 53.3
Sum of collective worth/weight from each scorecard: .25 + .5 + 1 = 1.75
Sum of personal points / sum of weights = 30% towards target for the Activity metric.
Group Points
Sum of points per person at the group level: 6.66 + 8.33 + 2.77 =
17.77 points for the collective for the Activity metric.
Score Scenario 2 - All Members Are Contributing Activity
The Group has 4 members. All members have contributed, so the number of group contributors will be 4.
Role 1 has a Scorecard where Activity is worth 25% of the total score and .25 points is gained for every 1 Activity.
Betty has achieved 80 / 100 Activities.
80 Activities x .25 points for each Activity = 20 personal points.
20 personal points / 4 group contributors = 5 points for Betty on the group level.
Role 2 has a Scorecard where Activity is worth 50% of the total score and .25 points is gained for every 1 Activity.
Blake has achieved 100 / 200 Activities.
100 Activities x .25 points for each Activity = 25 personal points.
25 personal points / 4 group contributors = 6.25 points for Blake on the group level.
Role 3 has a Scorecard where Activity is worth 100% of the total score and .25 points is gained for every 1 Activity.
Diego has a target override which makes his personal target higher than other fellow role members, so Diego will achieve 0.0333 points for every 1 Activity.
250 Activities x 0.0333 points for each Activity = 8.3 personal points.
8.3 personal points / 4 group contributors = 2.08 points for Diego on the group level.
Elizabeth has achieved 300 / 400 Activities.
300 Activities x .25 points for each Activity = 75 personal points.
75 personal points / 4 group contributors = 18.75 points for Elizabeth on the group level.
Group Percentage
Sum of personal points: 20 + 25 + 8.3 + 75 = 128.3
Sum of collective worth/weight from each scorecard: .25 + .5 + 1 + 1 = 2.75
Sum of personal points / sum of weights = 46% towards target for the Activity metric.
Group Points
Sum of points per person at the group level: 5 + 6.25 + 2.08 + 18.75 =
32.08 points for the collective for the Activity metric.
Score Scenario 3 - Not All Members Are Contributing Activity, but 100% is Reached
A scenario like the one below can lead to questions, "How can the group be at 100%, but I'm seeing they haven't reached their target, 3.3/3.7. What's happening?" The answer lies in who is contributing! Since the group target is a collective of targets for individuals, no single user is not held responsible for completing all 3.7K activities. The Role's percentage reflects the percent-to-target for only the active contributors, so all the users who have contributes have reached their individual targets!
The Group has 4 members. However, Elizabeth has yet to contribute, so the number of group contributors will be 3.
Role 1 has a Scorecard where Activity is worth 25% of the total score and .25 points is gained for every 1 Activity.
Betty has achieved 100 / 100 Activities.
100 Activities x .25 points for each Activity = 25 personal points.
25 personal points / 3 group contributors = 8.33 points for Betty on the group level.
Role 2 has a Scorecard where Activity is worth 50% of the total score and .25 points is gained for every 1 Activity.
Blake has achieved 200 / 200 Activities.
200 Activities x .25 points for each Activity = 50 personal points
50 personal points / 3 group contributors = 16.66 points for Blake on the group level.
Role 3 has a Scorecard where Activity is worth 100% of the total score and .25 points is gained for every 1 Activity.
Diego has a target override which makes his personal target higher than other fellow role members, so Diego will achieve 0.0333 points for every 1 Activity.
Diego has achieved 3000 / 3000 Activities.
3000 Activities x 0.0333 points for each Activity = 100 personal points.
100 personal points / 3 group contributors = 33.33 points for Diego on the group level.
Elizabeth has achieved 0 / 400 Activities.
Since Elizabeth hasn't contributed, she has gained no personal points and is not factored in as a group contributor.
Group Percentage
Sum of personal points: 25 + 50 + 100 = 175
Sum of collective worth/weight from each scorecard: .25 + .5 + 1 = 1.75
Sum of personal points / sum of weights = 100% towards target for the Activity metric.
Group Points
Sum of points per person at the group level: 8.33 + 16.66 + 33.33 =
58.33 points for the collective for the Activity metric.
Score Scenario 4 - All Members Reached Target
The Group has 4 members. All members have contributed, so the number of group contributors will be 4.
Role 1 has a Scorecard where Activity is worth 25% of the total score and .25 points is gained for every 1 Activity.
Betty has achieved 100 / 100 Activities.
100 Activities x .25 points for each Activity = 25 personal points.
25 personal points / 4 group contributors = 6.25 points for Betty on the group level.
Role 2 has a Scorecard where Activity is worth 50% of the total score and .25 points is gained for every 1 Activity.
Blake has achieved 200 / 200 Activities.
200 Activities x .25 points for each Activity = 50 personal points.
25 personal points / 4 group contributors = 12.5 points for Blake on the group level.
100 personal points / 4 group contributors = 25 points for Diego on the group level.
Elizabeth has achieved 400 / 400 Activities.
400 Activities x .25 points for each Activity = 100 personal points.
100 personal points / 4 group contributors = 25 points for Elizabeth on the group level.
Group Percentage
Sum of personal points: 25 + 50 + 100 + 100 = 275
Sum of collective worth/weight from each scorecard: .25 + .5 + 1 + 1 = 2.75
Sum of personal points / sum of weights = 100% towards target for the Activity metric.
Group Points
Sum of points per person at the group level: 6.25 + 12.5 + 25 + 25 =
68.75 points for the collective for the Activity metric.
