How Do I Generate a Coaching Pre-Read for Sessions?

Managers can use Coaching Pre-Reads to prepare for coaching Sessions and run more effective one-on-ones. Pre-Reads are AI-generated briefings that call out opportunities, trends, insights, and suggested steps for upcoming meetings with an employee.

This article details how managers can generate Pre-Reads so they can run more productive Sessions with their employees.

 

Required permission:

  • The system Manager or Admin permission set or the Coaching: All Access permission is required to generate a Pre-Read.

  • Co-Coaches can generate a Pre-Read even if they do not have the Manager or Admin permission set.

Required features:

  • The Coaching: Session Pre-Read feature must be enabled in order to generate a Pre-read.

What Data Does a Pre-Read Analyze?

Pre-Reads aim to provide a comprehensive picture of your employee's performance and sentiment so you can make the most out of our meetings. Pre-Reads reference the following data sources:

  • An employee's historic metric performance

  • The content of an employee's replies in previous Sessions

  • The sentiment and tone for the employee's responses in previous Sessions

  • Manager and Co-Coach comments on Sessions

  • Shared Notes about the employee

Who Can Generate and View a Coaching Pre-Read?

The Session's manager, Co-Coach(es), and anyone with Coaching; All Access can create and view Pre-Reads.

If the Executive Visibility Coaching Configuration option is enabled, higher-level managers will be able to view generated Pre-Reads. However, they will not be able to generate new Pre-Reads.

Note:

  • Employees cannot generate or view Pre-Reads for their Sessions.

Generate a Coaching Pre-Read

  1. Go to Coaching --> Sessions.

  1. Use the Filters to find the coaching Session that you want to generate a Pre-Read for.

  2. Click on the Session's name.

  3. Click on the Prep tab.

  4. Optional: Update the date range you want the Pre-Read to analyze. By default, Pre-Reads review the past three months of data.

  5. Click on Generate Pre-Read.

  6. The Pre-Read insights will be generated and will remain attached to the Session unless you generate a new Pre-Read. Pre-Reads always contain the following sections:

    1. Performance Metric Analyses

    2. Goal Insights

    3. Coaching Data Summary

    4. Net-New Questions to Ask

    5. Recommend Approach

Note:

  • Coaching insights are pulled from previous Sessions from the same Program.

  • If the Session isn't associated with a Program, coaching data from Sessions using the same template will be used.

  • If no template is used for the Session, you may see a "No coaching history available" message.

Re-Generate a Pre-Read or Ask Follow-Up Questions

  1. You can click on Regenerate Pre-Read to open have a new Pre-Read created.

  2. Click on Continue in chat to move the Pre-Read to an AI agent chat window so that you can ask the AI agent questions about the Pre-Read.
