What Are The Two Coaching Visibility Options?

Last updated: August 17, 2026

Coaching Visibility determines who can view and engage with coaching events, including Sessions, Shared Notes, Action Items, and Coaching Pre-Reads.

This article outlines Ambition's two Coaching Visibility options: Manager Level and Executive Level.

Required permissions:

  • The Organization: Edit permission is required to set the Coaching Visibility preference.

Manager Level

Manager Level is the default Coaching Visibility option. When this option is chosen, only the following people will be able to view a certain Session, Shared Note, and Action Item:

  • The Session employee

  • The Session manager and Co-Coaches

  • Anyone with Coaching: All Access permission

Executive Level

Executive Level Coaching Visibility allows senior leaders to view the coaching events of anyone below them in the reporting hierarchy.

The Executive Level option is commonly used when skip-level leaders need visibility into coaching activity across their organization.

With Executive Level Coaching Visibility enabled, senior leaders can create the following for anyone below them in the reporting hierarchy:

  • Create single Sessions and Group Sessions

  • Create Shared Notes and Private Notes

  • Create Action Items

  • Create Action Plans

  • Leave comments on Sessions and Action Plans

Senior leaders will be able to view the items listed below:

  • View single Session and Group Session Agenda Items, replies, and comments

  • View Coaching Pre-Reads generated by the Session manager or Co-Coach

  • View Action Items

  • View Action Plans, including those not associated with a Session

  • View comments on Action Plans

  • View Public Notes created by the Session manager, Co-Coaches, or employee(s)

The Executive Level option does not automatically allow upline leaders to take other coaching actions, such as editing or approving the Session where a subordinate is the Session manager. The senior leader must be granted other permissions to take those actions.

The senior leader should be given Coaching: All Access permission if they need visibility into coaching events across the organization.
