How Do I Create a Metric Based Alert?

Last updated: November 5, 2026

A Metric Based Alert Workflow sends a notification when a person or Group reaches a value you set for a Metric, such as a rep booking their fourth meeting of the week. This Workflow type can be sent by email, through Slack, Teams, or Zoom, and to Ambition TVs.

Use this reference guide below to create Metric Based Workflows for yourself or your team.

Required permissions:

  • The Workflows: Create or Workflows: All Access permission is required to create a Metric Based Alert.

Access the Workflow Creation Page

  1. Go to Hub --> Workflows.

  2. Click Create Workflow. The Create New Workflow page will appear.

  3. Click Create on the Metric Based Alert tile.

  4. Enter a Workflow Name. Adding a Description is optional, but encouraged.

  5. Leave the Active Status toggle set to Active. Turning off this toggle pauses the Workflow and no notifications will go out.

Pick the Metric and the Value That Trigger the Workflow

  1. Choose a Hierarchy Level and a Filter to select which employees or Groups the Workflow can fire for.

  2. Choose a Time Group. This determine what date range the Workflow should consider, such as Today or This Month.

  3. Use the Metric drop-down menu to select the Metric this Workflow will track.

  4. Choose a Metric Field (Value or Average), an Operator (such as Less Than or Equal To), and a Value. The Value field is the threshold at which the Workflow will fire a notification.

Create Your Alert Message

  1. Enter your notification's message body in the Message text box.

  2. Optional: Click Add Value Field or Add Entity Field to insert details such as the employee's name or the Metric value to the alert's message body.

  3. Optional: Add images and GIFs to the message body. Images and GIFs will only appear in email notifications.

Choose Where the Alert Is Sent

  1. Click on Add Actions to select where the Metric Based Alerts will be sent.

  2. Click on one of the notification channel cards and then follow the steps below:

    1. Email: Select who will receive the email, such as Send an email to myself or Send an email to a user or multiple users.

    2. Slack Message or Zoom Message: Choose Channel or User, then select one.

    3. Microsoft Teams Message: Choose Channel or User, then select the Team and Channel, or the User.

    4. Webex Message: Choose Space or User, then select one.

    5. TV Alert: Select the TVs under Which TVs?

  3. Optional: Repeat Steps 1–2 if you want the Alert sent to multiple places.

  4. Click on Create Workflow. You'll then see a message confirming that your Workflow was created successfully.

Note:

  • The Slack Message, Microsoft Teams Message, Webex Message, and Zoom Message tiles will only appear when their corresponding app is connected to Ambition.
