How Are Groups' Activity and Objective Scores Calculated?

Last updated: November 6, 2026

It's not uncommon for Groups to contain members from multiple Scorecards, such as a manager team or location-based Group. When you view a Group dashboard whose members belong to different Scorecards, Ambition calculates each member's points from their own Scorecard and averages them to arrive at the Group-level Activity Score and Objective Score.

This article explains how Ambition calculates Activity and Objective Scores for multi-Scorecard teams.

How Does Ambition Calculate Group-Level Activity and Objective Scores?

A team's Activity Score and Objective Score targets are always 100 points. The Group-level totals are calculated as follows:

1. Calculate the Percent-to-Target Total for Each Metric

Divide the Scorecard Group's Current attainment by their Target attainment. This provides their percent-to-target progress. If multiple Scorecards contain the same metric, repeat this process for each Scorecard.

2. Identify Each User's Point Contribution

Multiply the per-metric percent-to-target progress by the weight of each metric on each Scorecard. This will tell you what each user's point contribution is for a given metric.

If a metric is weighted differently on multiple Scorecards, then it should be represented multiple times. Click here to see a breakdown of how this affects a Group's Activity Score calculation.

3. Compute the Group-Level Per-Metric Points

Add together each user's point attainment to arrive at the Scorecard Group's cumulative point contribution for a given metric.

4. Divide the Total Number of Points by the Number of Participants

Divide each Scorecard Group's total point attainment for a metric by the number of employees in the entire Group, even if some employees do not belong to the Scorecard that the metric is listed on. If a metric isn't on a member's Scorecard, that member earns 0 points for it but still counts toward the total number of members.

5. Add the Per-Metric Points to Calculate the Activity or Objective Score

Add up the cumulative per-metric points to arrive at the team's Activity Score or Objective Score.
