How do I create an Action Plan?

Action Plans are a time-bound measurable extension of a rep's performance associated with an existing Program or Session in Ambition.
Users with the "Coaching: Create Action Plan" or "Coaching: All Access" permission will be able to create action plans.
"Can Create Action Plans for Anyone" or "Coaching: All Access" allows for creation of an action plan for anyone.
Combined with manager permissions, "Can Create Action Plans for Subordinate Users" allows for creation of action plans for users the manager manages.
1. Navigate to an existing Session.
Click on the "Action Plan" tab to display the form and any previous Action Plans that might be active.

2. Complete the basic details portion of the form.
Field Name | Field Description |
What is the name of this action plan? | Optional. Provide a name for the action plan, ex. Amber's call coaching action plan, 6 week action plan for Alex |
Description | Optional. Describe the action plan, ex. 4 Gong calls for Amber to review and leave feedback on. |
Objective | Optional. If the action plan has a specific purpose, call coaching, we recommend defining an objective. |
Field Name | Field Description |
Employee | The user that is responsible for completing the action plan. Search by name; only one user at a time. The employee will be notified upon creation. You cannot create an action plan for yourself. |
Due Date | Date, today or in the future, and time when the action plan must be completed. |
Time Zone | Specify the time zone to be utilized when determining the time an action plan is due. |
3. Select a Template or build a new agenda.
Any 1:1 Template can be used for an Action Plan. We recommend setting up specific templates meant for addressing performance improvements. If you have questions about creating templates or template types, that information can be found HERE.

Alternately, you can create a new agenda to meet the need of the Action Plan.
Action Plans can include any number of Agenda Items.
At least one Agenda Items must be required.
The following Agenda Items are available in the "Add Agenda Item" dropdown.

Metric Snapshot | Available if the "Coaching: Metric Snapshot Item" feature has been enabled. A question for the employee to answer that is built upon preselected metrics and time frames. A snapshot can capture up to 8 metrics across a single timeframe or one metric across two timeframes. | ![]() |
Pipeline Snapshot | Available if the "Pipeline Intelligence: Pipeline Views" feature has been enabled. A question for the employee to answer that is built upon a preconfigured pipeline view or template. | ![]() |
Feedback | Employee will be prompted to acknowledge the manager's feedback. | ![]() |
Content Block | Rich text editor that can provide additional information or context to a coaching agenda. No action for the user to take. | ![]() |
Poll | A question that is answered by the employee on a 1-5 point scale. Example: On a scale from 1-5 (1=low & 5= high) what's your level of confidence in your product knowledge? | ![]() |
Goal | Select an existing goal (select existing goal from the Existing Goal dropdown) or create a goal (click the New Goal button) on the spot for the employee to achieve. Questions about creating goals in Ambition? Learn more here.
Things to Note: Completing the goal will automatically mark the agenda item as complete. If the goal is completed but then updated and the target is no longer reached it will automatically revert the agenda item to be incomplete. If the goal agenda item is marked as required, the action plan's completeness depends on goal completion. If the goal agenda item is required, we do not advise creating or utilizing goals where the goal's end date is after the action plan's due date. | ![]() |
External URL | A link to a third-party item for the employee to review, complete, etc. Example a LMS module. Things to Note: If the External URL agenda item is marked as "Required", then the employee and manager will both be responsible for marking the agenda item as complete. After the action plan is submitted by the employee, the action plan will be put in a "Pending Approval" status while waiting for manager approval. | ![]() |
Embed Media | Iframe a YouTube or Vimeo video or 3rd party website directly into the coaching agenda. No action for the user to take. Be aware that not all platforms allow 3rd party embedding. For embedding a video from YouTube or Vimeo, you can input the share URL or iframe embed code. If you are embedding a Google Sheets URL, we recommend embedding a URL generated through the "Publish to web" share option rather than "Share with others". Learn more here. | ![]() |
File Upload | An action for the employee to take and an accompanying file. Employee will be prompted to acknowledge the uploaded file. | ![]() |
Checkboxes | A list of options for the employee to select, choosing all that apply. An "Other" option is available as well. Example: Which products would you like additional training on? Choose all that apply. | ![]() |
Multiple Choice | A list of options for the employees to select, choosing only one. An "Other" option is available as well. Great fit for True/False or Yes/No type questions. Example: Have you completed your monthly review? Yes or No. | ![]() |
Gong Calls | Available if the Gong integration is enabled and authorized. Attach one of more Gong calls for the employee to review OR employees attach one or more of their Gong calls when the action plan open. | ![]() In this example the employee attached calls and the manager left comments. |
Zoom Calls | Available if the Zoom integration is enabled and authorized. Employees attach one of more of their Zoom calls when the action plan opens. | ![]() |
Seismic Learning | Available if the Seismic Learning API within the Seismic integration is authorized. Select from any public, published Seismic Learning lessons and add them to coaching agendas. When selecting a lesson, there is no filtering for lessons assigned to a particular employee(s), but rather you will be presented with a list of all public, published lessons that can be added into the coaching agenda. | ![]() |
4. Click the Create Action Plan button to save.
