How Do Coaching Permission And Visibility Options Work?

Ambition uses a few different coaching settings to control who can access, view, and manage coaching activity. Coaching Access, Coaching Visibility, and Coaching: All Access sound similar, but each setting controls a different part of the coaching experience. Use these settings together to decide who can use coaching features, who can see coaching events, and who has broader administrative access to coaching data.
Required permissions:
The Organization: Edit permission is required to edit your company's Coaching Access and Coaching Visibility selections on the Organization Settings page.
Only Ambition's Support team can grant Coaching: All Access to a user.
Coaching Access
What It Is
Coaching Access controls who can use the coaching features enabled in your Ambition instance.
Unrestricted access allows all users to access the coaching features your organization has turned on.
Restricted access limits coaching features to selected employees, including Session managers, Co-Coaches, and their direct reports when they are participants.
When To Use It
Use Coaching Access when your organization needs to decide which employees can use coaching features at all.
Choose Unrestricted access when coaching should be available broadly across your organization.
Choose Restricted access when only certain teams, divisions, or employees should use Ambition for coaching.
Coaching Visibility
What It Is
Coaching Visibility controls who can view and engage with coaching events, such as Sessions, Shared Notes, Action Items, and Coaching Pre-Reads.
The Manager Level option limits visibility to the employee, the Session manager, Co-Coaches, and users with Coaching: All Access.
The Executive Level option gives senior leaders visibility into coaching activity for employees below them in the reporting hierarchy.
When To Use It
Use Coaching Visibility when your organization needs to decide how far coaching activity should be visible in the reporting hierarchy.
Choose Manager Level when coaching activity should stay limited to the employee and the people directly involved in the coaching relationship.
Choose Executive Level when senior leaders need visibility into coaching activity below them without automatically receiving permission to edit, approve, or manage those coaching events.
Coaching: All Access
What It Is
Coaching: All Access is a permission that grants broad access to coaching activity across the organization.
Users with this permission can view and manage many coaching items created by or for other users, including Sessions, Programs, Cadences, Action Items, Action Plans, Templates, and Coaching Analytics.
This permission does not override every restriction, such as viewing private notes about themselves or editing notes created by another user.
When To Use It
Use Coaching: All Access for administrators or leaders who need organization-wide coaching visibility and management access.
Assign it when a user needs to review or manage coaching activity across teams, initiatives, or the full organization.
Do not use it as a substitute for more targeted coaching settings when a user only needs access to specific employees or events.
